In this beginning to intermediate level course we will explore the many sampled and performed bass lines in hip-hop. We will break apart bass parts by the greats like Leonard Hubbard of the Roots, Bernard Edwards of Chic, Meshell Nedegeocello, and many more as well as learn how to write and perform our own Hip-hop lines. We will do a good amount of listening and talking about hip-hop history. Students should come away with an understanding of hip-hop bass lines and how they are constructed. This class requires some basic reading skills as well as intermediate playing and aural skills.
