Intermediate/Advanced Contemporary Dance Workshop with Elysia Banks

This Intermediate/Advanced Contemporary class includes elements of Horton and Graham-based modern techniques. The class will be an exploration of personalized improvisation and various movement studies with an emphasis on grounded, ascending, and descending floor work. It will also be a fluid, continuous class where dancers will be encouraged to make choices, personally interpret and explore their internal choreographic voice through humble guidance.

Elysia Christine Banks graduated from Northern Illinois University in the spring of 2012 receiving a Bachelors of Fine Arts with a concentration in Dance Performance. Elysia trained on scholarship while at NIU under the direction of Autumn Eckman, Judith Chitwood, Paula Frasz, and Brian Carey Chung. While at NIU, she choreographed various pieces for student ran productions, and upon graduating Elysia continued choreographing. She presented a work in Emergence Choreography Showcase in June 2016 and most recently for Ardent Dance Company’s Spring Show in April 2017. She also trained at the Chicago Multi-Cultural Dance Center under the direction of Homer Bryant prior to attending Northern Illinois University. Elysia danced with Winifred Haun and Dancers from 2012-2014 and is currently dancing with Carson Reiners. Elysia is thrilled to begin a new artistic journey as a dancer, teacher, choreographer, and new mother.
