This class is designed for players at multiple levels, whether you just finished Introduction to Djembe or have been playing or taking classes for years. Every session more rhythms are explored so its never the same class twice. Embody the poly rhythms of West Africa playing djembe, dundun and bells.

The djembe drum and its rhythms originate from cultures associated with the great Malian empire of West Africa. Develop technique, hand coordination and traditional rhythms in an ensemble. Investigate the cultural and historical significance of the djembe drum.

Prerequisites

Introduction to djembe or the ability to play bass, tone and slap, plus all dundun parts, djembe parts, and breaks from two West African rhythms.

Special Info

Students should bring their own djembe to class. Djembes available for rent or purchase at the Old Town School Music Stores. The ideal size drum should have a head that is 12” - 14” in diameter be be 23” - 25” tall.
