Senegalese Tama (“Talking Drum”) Player Massamba Diop is a world-class artist who has performed with Peter Gabriel, Baaba Maal and many others. He will lead a fun and interactive workshop with Carlo Basile (Las Guitarras de España) and other global music artists currently residing in Chicago. In 2004, Massamba Diop hosted Basile when he travelled to Senegal and Mali to perform, study, and gather musical materials for upcoming projects. A musical bond and friendship were formed. The workshop will feature demonstrations and discussion with regard to "musical composition and collaboration between cultures.” The emphasis will be on the music, the performance, and involving the participants in the experience!
