Wade Ward was a farmer and renowned clawhammer banjo player from Independence, Virginia. As a soloist and with the Ballard Creek Bogtrotters, Ward was recorded by John Lomax, Alan Lomax, Mike Seeger, John Cohen & Peter Hoover from 1937 into the 1960s. Wade Ward's banjo playing is incisive and driving, and his tune settings are strong enough to stand alone as solo banjo pieces. This workshop will give you insight into Ward's sophisticated style and a chance to play several of his most memorable arrangements (for which banjo tablature will be provided).
