Jazz Classics of the 1930s

Let’s look back to some classics. “I’m Going to Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter” was an instant hit for Fats Waller in 1935 and quickly became an early jazz standard for dance bands of the era. And the song “Deep Purple” reached hit status for both the Larry Clinton and Artie Shaw orchestras in 1939. The appeal of their beautiful melodies was so enduring that both songs were reborn in the 1950s and 60s and reached hit status again. We’ll talk about the the history of these songs and then learn instrumental guitar versions using fingerstyle playing.

Blaise will guide you through each song using some bar chords, emphasizing playing techniques; all following tab notation. If you aren’t a singer, but just want to build your fingerpicking skills and expand your repertoire…this is for you.
