IExperience the engaging piano lab group learning approach developed by our own creative and passionate teaching musicians. Learn piano technique, music theory, and musicianship.
With a strong emphasis on rhythm, chords, and song structure, you’ll learn the essential tools to play piano with confidence on your own and with others. You’ll learn to listen carefully, master note reading skills, and play in steady tempo with the group. Guided by an accomplished pianist as your teacher, you will progress as a group on piano pieces and skills from the Alfred Chord Approach Book One, completing page 37 by the end of the session.
Our state of the art piano lab features eight Yamaha digital pianos with authentic sound, accurate pitch, and weighted keyboards. With a maximum of eight students, class size remains small allowing for individualized instruction.
Prior experience with piano required. In Piano 1, we will be covering C position and working through page 37. This is beginning level class, but students must have some prior experience with the piano and reading music. For youth brand new to piano, choose Youth Piano - Introduction.
Attendance is important in this class as the group progresses along together in this group class experience. Please email the teacher directly if you have planned absences. You should have a piano or keyboard for practice at home. The Old Town School store sells weighted keyboards. Please also purchase the Alfred Chord Approach, Lesson Book One from the store and bring it to the first class. Because of the intimate and personalized class experience, if you need to miss class, please connect with your teacher about any missed material. While we don’t offer makeups in our Kids’ Music Program, we hope you can join us for complementary programs like The Saturday Jam or other social-music making at the school. These are important educational experiences for practice and play.
