It Takes a Village: Dance Across the African Diaspora

This collaborative workshop, co-presented by Changing Worlds and the Old Town School, draws on the linked heritages of continental Africa, the Caribbean, and the US. Drawing on the power of the circle, this energetic and quick-paced dance class will rotate through a variety of African-descended movement practices, climax in a community dance circle, and cool down with a Q & A conversation.

Participants will learn more about the variety and nuance of black/African culture and history through a global lens embodied in dialogue and movement. Together we will dig into the connections and differences found across the African Diaspora through the art form of dance in a fun and interactive setting.

Co-Instructors: Yaasha Abraham (Ethiopian Dance), Sadira Muhammad (Senegalese Sabar), Kelsa Robinson (House), Nikki Smith (Salsa), all teaching artists with Changing Worlds.
