Have you always wanted to pull some bow in a bluegrass band? This class is a great primer for honing your existing fiddle skills so that you can experience the thrill of being a bluegrass ensemble player. Bluegrass sets up some exciting rhythmic conditions for a fiddler, and this class focuses on how to both support and play on top of a bluegrass groove.
We will cover several practical concepts like droning, double stops, saw-stroke bowing, rhythm playing, melodic and bluesy improvisation and using bow phrasing to emphasize the back beat. The material will be all bluegrass songs and instrumental tunes, and we will cover the styles of several bluegrass fiddlers from Chubby Wise and Kenny Baker to Alison Krauss, Laurie Lewis and Stuart Duncan.
