Evanston-native Alisa Rosenthal was raised on her parents' eclectic music tastes, bouncing from radio station to radio station and taking great joy in the many different styles and kinds of music on air. Alisa grew up at The Piven Theater Workshop in Evanston and incorporates the spirit of theater games and improv into most everything she does! She believes that all people are innately creative and unique, and loves watching kids and parents alike discover which elements of music and theater they're inspired by. Alisa's classrooms filled with positive energy and a warm and embracing sense of humor - both in the building, and via Old Town's outreach program in the Chicago Public Schools, children's hospitals, and senior care facilities.
With a background in comedy, Alisa brings her years of being a musical comedian to her Old Town classes. A semi-finalist for the Andy Kaufman Award (NY) in 2010, national performances include the Minnesota Fringe Festival, the Twin Cities Jewish Humor Festival, and Artscape Baltimore. Locally, she's performed at the Chicago Women's Funny Festival, Zanies Chicago, the Neo-Futurists, iO Theater, the Paper Machete, and THAW Links Hall. She is the proud emcee for the Chicago League of Lady Arm Wrestlers.
She can be seen all over town performing kids' shows both solo, and with her band Pineapple Tree. Recent shows include: Millennium Park, Lincoln Park Zoo, Ribfest, jBaby Chicago, the Irish American Heritage Festival, and Kids in the Square.
Education: Alisa holds a BA from the University of Iowa in Theatre Arts with honors and English, and a certificate in Eccentric Performing from the Celebration Barn Theatre in South Paris, Maine.
