Zoey is a low key, laid back person so lessons tend to be laid back and non judgmental. His job is simply to help his students achieve their playing goals, and sometimes to articulate what those goals are. The main thing he tries to do is get his students to become self sufficient learners so that they can teach themselves because that's when things really start to happen musically, when the student takes the reins over their own progress as a musician.
Zoey is a freelance guitarist in the Chicago area, playing solo and with a wide range of groups in studios and at clubs, concerts, festivals, and private events. These days he plays with Nicholas Barron Band, Midnight Blue, Needles in the Red, Windy City Rev Ups, Yacht Rockets, and many other groups. You might also see him playing in the Minstrels Gallery at the Peninsula Hotel from time to time, or at weddings and corporate parties with various society bands all over the Midwest. Venues played include: Aragon, Buddy Guy's Legends, Kingston Mines, Martyr's, Schuba's, Untitled, Tonic Room, Uncommon Ground, City Winery, Double Door, US Cellular Field, and many others. In the past he has played with Cathy Richardson, Maggie Speaks, 101 Ranch Band, Tributosaurus, Buddy Guy, and many others. He has opened for Scott Henderson, Dennis Chambers, Jeff Berlin, Travis Tritt, Estelle, and others.
Education: Zoey studied with Fareed Haque at Northern Illinois University.
