Singer/songwriter Linda Marie Smith began her early musical career winning state wide classical piano competitions. She eventually moved on to more contemporary music crafting her own songs while attending college. Over 20 years ago Linda got her start on the guitar at the Old Town School of Folk Music and thoroughly enjoys the opportunity to give back what she has learned to present Old Town School students.
Smith is a warm and enthusiastic teacher and enjoys sharing various genres of music with her students. Some of her faves are The Beatles, Neil Young, Feist, Shawn Colvin, Traveling Wilbury’s, Tom Petty, The Kinks, Oasis, Coldplay, and on and on.
Besides teaching, Linda has released several CDs of her music, Linda M. Smith, Blame It On the Moon, and her most recent ARTEMISIA. This conceptual project she considers to be a true labor of love and is the first of several to come. The live presentation is called TRAGEDY TO TRIUMPH - THE STORY OF ARTEMISIA. It’s Smith’s first multi-media piece which tells the powerful story of 17th century Italian painter Artemisia Gentileschi. She was thrilled to release ARTEMISIA at the Old Town School of Folk Music in 2006.
Smith’s newest work is another music multi-media concert experience called MEARRA~SELKIE FROM THE SEA. The debut of this Celtic fairytale fantasy was filmed at the Irish American Heritage Center in Chicago and is now airing nationally on PBS in 2016. Chicago’s own WYCC-PBS station was the first to air Mearra in March of 2015 and has decided to make Mearra a Chicago mainstay!
She fronts her own self-titled band which performs in concert at colleges, festivals, and select venues.
