Lamar Lockett

School Partnerships

Lamar began his career in dance as a hip-hop dancer. He’s a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he also studied modern and jazz dance. While at U of I, he was introduced to swing dance and this is when his love for partner dancing began.
For the past 15 years he has taught a combined 5,000 hours of group and private lessons in Ballroom and Latin dancing.

Lamar has experience preparing youth for competition through the "Having a Ball" Chicago Public School competition. He's a Semi-finalist of ESPN Salsa Competition and proud holder of 1st Place Jazziest Jitterbug dance competition at the WDCB annual Gala. He was a dancer in the movie "The Break-Up" and a Choreographer for BLAST, Northwestern University Ballroom Latin and Swing Team for four seasons. Lamar has been teaching youth dance programs at Old Town School since 2017.
