John Yost is a facilitator, rhythmatist and educator. He has performed and recorded nationally. As a facilitator, John has facilitated rhythm based events in various settings all over the world. John is the author of the DVD series, John Yost Teaches released by Hands in Motion Productions. He has studied in Africa, Japan and the USA with numerous master drummers. John endorses REMO drums exclusively for drum circles.
Studied in West Africa and U.S. djembe and dunun with the following Master drummers: M’Bemba Bangoura, Madou Dembele, Yaya Kabo, Gbongworo Keita, Mamady Keita, Famoudou Konate, Ibro Konate , Michael Markus, Paulo Mattioli, and Babtunde Olatunji.
Japanese Taiko drumming in Japan and the U.S. with members of Kodo including: Yoshikazu Fujimoto, Eichi Saito, Leonard Eto, as well as with Miyauchi Sensei, Grand Master Seiichi Tanaka, Master Ukichi Takano etc.
Drum Circle Facilitation Training in Hawaii with Arthur Hull, 1994, Mentor Program in 2002, as well as various weekend trainings.
John has taught in numerous ongoing classes as well festivals. Clients include, The Chicago Office of Tourism, The Chicago Park District, The Old Town School of Folk Music, Symphony Center, Keynote speaker for the Teaching Experiential Adventure Methodology Conference, Northeastern IL University, Harper College, Festival of Nations (St. Paul MN), Midwest Drum and Dance Festival, Field Museum of Chicago, Rhythm Night Club, etc.
