Jason Toth has been playing drums and percussion since the 4th grade. He has toured in North America, Europe, and Australia with bands such as The Handsome Family, Daniel Knox, Elizabeth Mitchell, Sleeping at Last, Edith Frost, the Zincs, and the Fruit Bats. He has appeared on recordings for Thrill Jockey, Drag City, Carrot Top, and Sub Pop Records. He began teaching at the Old Town School in 2008.
He maintains that first and foremost, drummers should strive to be solid and sound ensemble players. His teaching focuses on the staples of good drumming such as control, dynamics, steadiness and coordination. He enjoys working on drumset studies as well as snare drum / percussion / student concert band material. Recent lessons have focused on talent show prep, LPHS auditions, Merit School of Music Auditions, and the music of The Beatles, The Roots, The Band, Radiohead, Otis Redding, the Pixies, and the Staple Singers.
