Street Dance/Hip-Hop, Early Childhood, Jazz Dance

India Monae Smith, born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, realized her love for dance at a young age. Soon she fell in love with the culture of Hip-Hop and studied Modern as well. Smith then continued her dance training at Columbia College of Chicago to pursue her degree in Dance and Early Childhood Education. She strives to reach for her goals and to push others to do the same. She believes that dance is love, light, and life.

Mini Dancers: ages 3 to 4 with India Smith

Welcome to your first drop-off dance class! In Mini Dancers students will learn developmentally appropriate movement skills that will prepare them for their continued dance education. Students will to coordinate their bodies with music by practicing basic dance steps, and locomotor and non-locomotor movements. Students will also play movement games that engage their active imaginations and active bodies, exploring how to express ideas through movement. And of course students of this age group will also working on basic classroom procedures and social/emotional skills such as personal space, taking turns, listening skills, and respectful behavoiur.

Hip-Hop 1A: ages 5 & 6 with India Smith

for kids with birthdays between: 10/02/2012 and 09/02/2014
This introduction to hip-hop/street dance styles for the young dancer is focused on rhythm, musicality, and basic footwork in a casual, friendly environment. Using combinations and steps with music, hip-hop/street dance is a great way to get kids moving and having fun!

Jazz Dance 1B: ages 7 to 12 with India Smith

for kids with birthdays between: 10/02/2006 and 09/02/2012
Youth Jazz 1B is a student’s introduction to the American art from of jazz dance. Students will learn fundamental steps and technique, isolations, and floorwork while building their self-expression. Students will begin building these steps together with fun-filled jazz choreography combinations to hone performance skills.
