Gabriella began studying piano at age 5 and graduated in May 2015 from the University of Miami, where she majored in Piano Performance and Music Therapy. Some of her favorite college ensemble experiences include playing chamber music as well as singing in a Downbeat award-winning jazz vocal group. She has coached kids' rock bands with various organizations in Chicago, participated in the Miami Summer Music Festival, and played for numerous theatrical productions. Primarily trained in classical music, Gabriella is enthusiastic about growing as a musician of all styles, as some of her favorites include R&B, rock, world music, and jazz. She also loves playing guitar and writing songs for music therapy. A newly board-certified music therapist, Gabriella has served clients with special needs, psychological disorders, cognitive deficits, social, emotional, and behavioral challenges, and more. Gabriella moved from Florida to the Chicago area in June 2015 and she could not be happier to have joined her new Old Town family! She thanks all of her wonderful teachers for developing her skills and fostering her passion for music.
Gabriella individualizes her teaching approach based on the needs and wants of her students. In her lessons, she offers a balance of musicality, creative expression, and ear training with technique, note-reading, and theory. Her goals as a teacher are to help students discover and develop a love for music that continues throughout their lives, develop well-rounded skills, and grow into players who enjoy making and sharing in musical experiences with others. For instrumentalists who want to learn sing and play at the same time, she can provide this type of coaching. She strives to create playful, relaxed, and focused learning environments where all of her students can succeed.
