Old Town School Celebrates World Music

Celebrating our past as we look forward to the future, Old Town School of Folk Music remains committed to our promise: extending opportunities for everyone to experience, learn, and build their own creative life.

Chicago’s many neighborhoods form a complex cultural ecology, with each community showcasing traditional music styles from all over the world. Old Town School of Folk Music is Chicago’s leading venue for presenting and exploring these many artistic expressions, encompassing a wide annual variety of world music concerts, dance performances and educational opportunities. It is a community built from many places, encompassing the entire globe - the world in one place.

Join us as Old Town School celebrates, honors and supports Old Town School’s vital role in sharing, presenting and teaching world music to all Chicagoans.

Your support makes our work possible

Old Town School of Folk Music is guided by the philosophy that access to and participation in the arts is a human right. Our mission of teaching and celebrating music and cultural expressions rooted in the traditions of American and global communities has remained consistent over six decades. Building one’s own creative life goes hand in hand with the basic human need for a sense of belonging and community – a project which the School continues to embody. Old Town School invests more than $2 million annually to support arts education programs, tuition aid for low-income students and innovative community-based programs that provide year-round instruction to thousands of under-served children throughout the city. This work includes our ambitious Music Moves: Arts & Community Wellness initiative in Englewood. Your support of this event will help to ensure the continued growth of Music Moves and all of our education programs.
