Fresh Expressions is a bi-monthly, grassroots, youth-organized open mic and performance showcase followed by an interactive community dialogue. This month, Noura Mint Seymali will be featured and will lead an interactive community dialogue around the challenges in being a female artist and a person of faith. Limited capacity. All instruments, voices, and levels are welcome and encouraged. Especially great for young folks discovering new instruments, songs, and styles. Come share your tunes, sing and dance with us. Experience the power of art through a story of song from West Africa to America. The evening will feature performances by artist-in-residence Noura Mint Seymali, thought-provoking hip hop rapper JasiriX, Lindblom Math & Science Academy's A Cappella Choir, and will be hosted by African Diaspora historian Dr. Sylviane Diouf. The performances will be woven into discussions about spirituality, social change and the ongoing struggles and hope in communities around one of Chicago's South-Side gems: Lindblom Math & Science Academy.
