The OTS Dance Ensemble is a performance-focused opportunity for young dancers. Under the direction of Monica Thomas, dancers will prepare a repertoire of material that they will showcase at an array of public performances both at OTS and in the larger Chicago community. In the process, dancers will develop their individual creative voices while also building collaboration skills. They will learn an array of dance styles from many dance professionals as well as improvising and choreographing their own movement material. Through public performances, dancers will have an expressive outlet while building community connections as representatives of the Old Town School.
The Old Town Dance Ensemble has a four-fold mission:
Creativity - leading young dancers to find their individual creative voices by exposing them to an array of dance styles as well as dance composition methods
Collaboration - Providing a fast-paced yet supportive environment where students collaborate as an ensemble and work with a number of professional dance artists
Performance - giving young dancers opportunities to hone their performance preparation skills in a multitude of performance settings
Community - to bring dance of many styles into our communities, exposing audiences to the offerings at OTS and building the profile of the dance program, as well as making dance performance accessible to all
