How To Approach Learning a Jazz Standard

In this workshop the great jazz guitarist, Bobby Broom spends time talking
about this question that many students have asked Bobby in private lessons
and in clinics around the world: “How do you approach learning a jazz
standard?”. When talking about standards you have to look at every detail
of the tune, from the melodic structure, rhythmic syncopation of a melody,
or its harmonic frame work. Bobby will also dive into how he approaches
improvising over some choice classic standards. This workshop is great for
anyone who is looking to learn a step by step way of learning a song and
also for the jazz musicians looking for a new way to approach improvising
on standards.
Bobby Broom has played with such luminaries as Sonny Rollins, Kenny Burrell, Dr. John among others He has taught at DePaul and Roosevelt..
