How To Approach Learning a Jazz Standard

In this workshop the great jazz guitarist, Bobby Broom spends time talking about a question that many students have asked himy in private lessons and in clinics around the world: “How do you approach learning a jazz standard?”.

When talking about standards you have to look at every detail of the tune, from the melodic structure, rhythmic syncopation of a melody, or its harmonic frame work. Bobby will also dive into how he approaches improvising over some choice classic standards. This workshop is great for anyone who is looking to learn a step by step way of learning a song and also for the jazz musicians looking for a new way to approach improvising on standards.

Bobby Broom has played with such luminaries as Sonny Rollins, Kenny Burrell, Dr. John among others He has taught at DePaul and Roosevelt.
