Songwriting Seminar: Dynamics, Lyrics & Rhythms

Seminar participants are divided into three groups, and each section will experience these exhilarating artists.
Dynamics for Singing and Writing Voices
This unit of our seminar will delve into how dynamics informs one as a writer and a singer. With in-class exercises, you will find & expand on all the colors of your writing and performing palettes using volume, emotions, and even prose writing. Tap into your physical & metaphysical voices with Sue!
Lyric Ripening with Prompts
Explore the influence of your focus on the songs you create with prompts from poetry, visual arts and each other. We will work as individuals, as collaborators, and as a collective. We will employ cross-writing, free association, and drawing from a variety of prompts, thus embellishing our songwriting toolkit. Experience the impact of visual, literary and personal inspiration on your creative process.
Expand Your Songwriting With Rhythmic Variety
Rhythm is the first thing we respond to when we listen to music but it is often the last thing we think about as songwriters. In this unit we’ll examine overall groove, time signatures, feel, placement of melody within a measure, duration of chords and more. So much is said by the space we provide in our compositions.
