Temple began studying music at a very early age. Her early years performing lead roles in
summer stock theatre productions garnered her a scholarship at Interlochen Arts Academy
where Temple focused in opera and classical piano. She received her bachelor’s at the
University of Miami where she studied studio music at jazz at the Frost School of Music. Temple holds a master’s degree in urban planning and policy from the University of Chicago, Illinois.
As a private instructor, Temple meets the student where they are and believes in working
towards continuous short-term goals driven by the student. As a vocal instructor, she uses tools and methods to help a student see the voice as an instrument itself that can be manipulated like any other instrument separate from the human body. This can help to detach any negative mindset that can frequently plague singers who see their voice as a part of them for which they have limited control over. As a piano instructor, Temple includes teaching the theory of the keyboard in addition to standard repertoire, giving the student access to create music on their own without the need for sheet music.
Temple has also worked in arts curriculum development that aligns with STEAM methodologies through Ravinia’s Reach Teach Play program, Roosevelt and Columbia universities, and Urban Gateways. She designed arts-based after school activities for Chicago YMCA and worked with the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs on the City’s Cultural Plan. Temple has performed with her original music and in multiple cover bands for private events and clubs for over twenty-five years. She lives with her husband who is also a professional musician, two “almost” adult kids, three cats and a dog, in West Ridge.
