Teachers at the Old Town School

Renee Nanzer

Piano, Voice

Styles - Classical, World, Folk Styles - American Traditional, Blues, Irish, Mexican, Gospel

Techniques - Scales, Arpeggios, Chords, Playing by Ear

Renée likes to have fun in class, but she also wants to make sure that everyone understands new and old concepts. Her style is laid-back, methodical, and engaging. Students learn to play their instruments as part of a group, and also how to play classical compositions on the grand staff. Singers learn foundational technique and learn to stretch across different styles.

As an early childhood teacher, Renée’s classes are sweet and engaging; babies and toddlers and young children explore instruments and props with a global repertoire.

In addition to teaching at the Old Town School of Folk Music, Renée is a singer-songwriter and hoop dancer. She has performed internationally, and won an award for singing in Cantonese in 2017.

She currently serves as a union co-president for the Old Town Teacher's Organization, (OTTO) Local #909.

Stay tuned for her Fall 2023 album release on her website:  reneenanzer.com
