Teachers at the Old Town School

Andrew Wilkins

Piano

Music Styles: Classical, Jazz, Pop, Rock, and Blues

Techniques: Technical studies are designed to build strength, coordination, good tone and a solid time feel

Andrew has performed in a wide variety of musical contexts, including solo performances, small group jazz settings, and rock band shows and festivals. His performance experience and passion for continued learning and growth as a musician define the way he conducts his students' private lessons. Learning to play music is a uniquely personal endeavor, and the instruction and guidance through that process must also be unique. By tailoring lessons to address each student's individual interests and long term aspirations, students are given an opportunity to explore, challenge themselves, and discover the things that make music so fun to listen to and play.

Andrew was a member of the Shanghai 5, a Dallas based band that won the Dallas Observer Award for Best Jazz Ensemble in 2007. He also performs with the Old Town School's very own, Jonas Friddle & The Majority, who won Song Of The Year, in the John Lennon Song Writing Contest in 2012 for Jonas' song, "Belle de Louisville." As a multi-instrumentalist, Andrew enjoys bringing his piano, guitar, bass and drum set playing together to compose and record original music in his home studio.
