Celebrating 50 Years

World's Largest Music Lesson - August 7th, 2007

Pre-registration for the lesson is closed - but if you haven't registered already come on out to the park and register at the Gazebo check-in area.

The Old Town School of Folk Music is poised to enter the Guinness Book of World Records! Guitar players of every level are welcome to join the Old Town School guitar faculty at the Welles Park Gazebo to learn basic chords and play two songs in full unison.

Bring your guitar! You must have a guitar to participate in the lesson. Unfortunately, we will not be able to rent or loan guitars for this event, but if you visit us in the Different Strummer Music Store, we've got custom-made 50th Anniversary guitars specially priced at $89 for this event only (regular retail is $189.) Stop in the store or call us at 773.751.3398 for details. Quantities are limited.

Come to the Gazebo check-in area when you arrive at Welles Park, located on the north side of the park, near the corner of Sunnyside and Oakley. You will be asked to show a photo ID and sign your name to our registration list. This is the information that is required by the Guinness Book of World Records. If you don't check in, you can't be counted as a participant, so please check in!

Please arrive between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM! Check-in and registration begins at 6:00 PM, and the more people who check in early, the better!

The music lesson will take place in the area surrounding the Welles Park Gazebo. We won't be handing out any materials at the lesson, but you can download an outline of the entire lesson from our website. The pdf file includes basic info about the guitar, chord charts and lyrics to the songs.

Please do not drive to Welles Park. On the best of days parking in this area is very limited, and it will be even more crowded on Tuesday. Public transportation is just that much more fun with a guitar, so take the Brown line to Western, or the Lincoln or Western bus lines.

This event is for all ages, all abilities, and is family friendly. Even the younger set will be counted if they bring and can strum a guitar.
