Chicago Folk & Roots Festival 2006
Irma Thomas and the Professionals
Saturday, July 8th at 8:15pm on the Main Stage

Irma Thomas is a treasured cultural icon who embodies the spirit and soul of New Orleans. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Thomas was thought to be missing along with other Crescent City great Fats Domino. Lucky for us, she was busy bringing her rich, resonant vocal style to Austin, Texas when the flood struck. However, her home, nightclub, and 40 years worth of memorabilia were sadly washed away.

Still, her soulful voice was not lost and to hear her live with an all-star Louisiana band promises to elevate Folk & Roots to another level. With the resilience she has shown in the past year and with her voice shining through, Irma Thomas will be the perfect way to end the first day of the Fest.

These Honey Dos (3.7M mp3)
from the After the Rain CD

NPR's Weekend Edition visited with Irma Thomas Saturday, July 1st.
