Chicago Folk & Roots Festival 2005
Alejandro Escovedo
Saturday, July 9th at 8:15PM on the Main Stage

Poet. Playwright. Storyteller. Songwriter. Rock'nRoller.

Undeniably unclassifiable, Alejandro Escovedo blurs the line where these titles begin and end leading noted Rolling Stone music critic David Fricke to proclaim "Escovedo is his own genre".

Alejandro Escovedo combines the of storytelling of folk, the grittiest blues, the saddest ballad, and the loosest rock'n'roll
into a powerful mix that somehow comes out sounding uniquely elegant. This musical composite is then topped with his lyrical ability to wring poetry out of everyday life. His status as a songwriter's songwriter is solidified in the company he keeps with artists such as Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, the Jayhawks, Calexico, Nicholas Tremulis Orchestra, John Dee Graham all making guest appearances on his albums in the past.

With his health back on track, Alejandro Escovedo has a new lease on life in 2005. If his two sold out shows at Old Town School earlier this year are any indication, Escovedo's upcoming headlining performance at this year's Festival promises to both delight and astound.
