Laketown Buskers

4545 N Lincoln Ave · The Myron R. Szold Music & Dance Hall · 773.728.6000

  • The inimitable Laketown Buskers bring their lively quartet to Old Town School packed full of energy and infectious fun. Fortified with a dazzling array of musical contraptions, the Buskers are the musical equivalent of a country general store, displaying everything from low-down blues to high-tone jazz, country classics and jug band favorites. Multiple appearances on Prairie Home Companion, prominent Midwest festivals and multiple recordings launched the Laketown Buskers into decades of fame, and a wall-busting reunion last summer demanded a return to Chicago.

Multi-instrumentalist Colin McCoy, the band's "rosin-sizzling fiddler" flies in from New York joining his old band-mates Great Bobo Stelnicki on his famed washtub bass, orchestra leader and virtuoso Stu Rosenberg of Radio Gumbo fame, and washboard wizard Barb Silverman with her "honey voice" and rhythm guitar.

What have notable people said about them?

"A hot band from Chicago." - Garrison Keillor
"The best jug band still performing." - Eric Zorn, Chicago Tribune
    "Invigorating music." - Illinois Entertainer
"Crisp and clean instrumentals, stunning vocals." - Old Time Herald
    "Delicious." - Odetta
