Shelley Miller and the BCC make music to rip the curtains between darkness and light. Hard, delicate, sinewy, soulful music, music driven as much by Miller's skin-of-your-teeth storytelling as by the band's carefully-crafted guitar lines and shake-your-teeth noise. Think Radiohead by way of Neko Case by way of Thurston Moore by way of Wilco by way of rusty bicycles and midnight thunderstorms and beer and sobriety and too much coffee and not enough sleep.
"Miller gives off a darkly emotional ferocity reminiscent of Radiohead's golden The Bends / OK Computer records or PJ Harvey's Rid of Me, and the band's instrumentation sparkles with the crisp air of something Superchunk might have written…" - The Daily Journal
Masterful songwriter and Old Town School teacher Steve Dawson has been penning perfect pop songs for years with his acclaimed group Dolly Varden and as a solo artist. “Personal, philosophical, and subtly orchestrated, Dawson's tunes sway with whispers of pedal steel, finely placed echo, and a tasty acoustic/electric guitar combo, all underpinning one of the great pop-rock voices of our time…Think Ace-era Paul Carrack mixed with Elliott Smith and Big Star's Chris Bell. Put into service for compositions packed with melody, texture and winning wordplay and you have a classic artist hiding in plain sight.” - Jambase
Steve's crack backing band Funeral Bonsai Wedding features Jason Adasiewicz on vibraphone, Jason Roebke on bass, Frank Rosaly on drums, and Diane Christiansen on vocals.
