Juana Molina is one of the most original, imaginative and internationally embraced Argentine musicians recording today. She weaves together propulsive acoustic guitar strumming, clanging percussions, dreamy, ambient keyboards and then spreads her ethereal voice over the whole blend. She produces the music on her own, using looping technology to layer the different elements on top of one another, creating whirling, hypnotic and often gorgeous musical tapestries.
“Her Brazilian-influenced adventurism can be kaleidoscopic, edgy and exquisite, sometimes all at once; it adds up to an often gorgeous record.” - Rolling Stone
Weatherman is the piano, drums, and voice duo of Annie Higgins and Jason Toth with guest harmonies from Angela James. Two female vocalists sing over gospel-leaning piano chords and modified R&B beats. The direction began with an emphasis on the growing groove undercurrent in Annie's song-writing for her former band, 19th-century-classical-hued piano and string quintet, Singing in the Abbey. Her progressions became an unintentional outlet for a modish, rhythmic itch in Jason that has no place with the other acts that he frequently accompanies, Daniel Knox and the Handsome Family. Their inaugural recording, made at Experimental Sound Studio in Chicago, will be available in April 2014.
