Anne-Marie Akin's A joyous tapestry of song and story celebrating the people of the Old Town School of Folk Music. Composer Anne-Marie Akin called out to the Old Town School community for their stories, and her response is this cycle of 11 songs in a variety of styles, interwoven with excerpts from actual interviews. Featuring John Abbey, Anne-Marie Akin, Tisa Batchelder, Bill Brickey, Jarod Facknitz, Cathy Norden, Colby Maddox and Gregg Ostrom with special guests Rick Sherry, Louie Stallone, Lanialoha Lee, Bernie Navarro, Barb Silverman, The Janes, The Go-Go Ensemble, and more. Musical Direction by Cathy Norden, Visual Direction by Erin Flynn, Composed and Directed by Anne-Marie Akin "Shuffling Through Snapshots" Have you ever noticed how the Old Town School dances? Not just in the dance classrooms, but also in the wiggle of toddlers learning to groove to new songs often before they've learned to walk, the specific motion of learning a new chord, the greeting of new and old friends before a concert. "Shuffling Through Snapshots" captures the movements of classes, concerts and community at the Old Town School, transforming them into a dance piece that celebrates the strums and plucks of a new instrument, embracing a new dance step, tapping your toe to a favorite song and so much more! In true Old Town School style, choreographer Jen Guglielmi has been working collaboratively with dancers Heather Fraelick, Liana C. Percoco, and Jennifer Thornton and sound designer Tim Joyce to create a dance that embodies the experiences of the School. If you've ever been to the Old Town School, we think you'll recognize something from your own experience in this piece and if you're new to the school, we hope you'll be inspired to come back and play. Tom Stevens' "String Quartet Number Four" "String Quartet Number Four" by Thomas Winthrop Stevens is a contemporary classical piece fashioned from folk songs that appear in the Old Town School Songbooks. Stevens uses seven traditional tunes as the thematic material for a six movement work. At times the folk melodies appear in their original form or they may be transformed into motives that express a range of feeling from introspection to rousing energy. "String Quartet Number Four" embraces the classical notion that music of substance can have melodic and popular appeal. Classes
