Paseo Jarocho, arrangements of sones jarochos, from southern Veracruz, Mexico, weave together Indigenous-Mexican, Spanish, Arabic, and Afro-Caribbean musical styles to explore shared historical roots of these centuries-old traditions.

Son del Viento Chicago jarocho ensemble collaborates with Aztec conchero dancers, and musicians of the Middle-eastern oud, nuevo flamenco, Mexican huasteca, Venezuelan joropo, Afro-carribean and West African traditions to tell stories of musical diaspora through varied rhythms, melodies, dance and poetic forms.

In the fandango finale, representing the collective gathering around the tarima wooden dance platform, we celebrate the continued growth and strength of the vibrant cultural communities of Chicago.

Sign up for the Zapateado, Requinto, and Jarana workshop with artists on Thursday, February 23.
