  • Global Dance Party

The Global Dance Party is a new Friday night series offering an exciting opportunity to experiment with dance styles from around the globe. Each evening will feature a dance class followed by two hours of music from live bands or DJs in our brand new Myron R. Szold Music & Dance Hall.

  • Rhythm Manding

Rhythm Manding is led by Moussa Bolokada Conde, a Master Drummer in the Mande tradition. The roots of the music are in the traditional rhythms of the Mande culture, specifically in Guinea, West Africa.

Bolokada came to Champaign-Urbana in 2008 as a guest artist with the Robert E. Brown Center for World Music at the University of Illinois. He wasted no time in developing a performance group and subsequent fan base. Having already been together for two years playing exclusively traditional drumming rhythms, Rhythm Manding branched out this year and began fusing these traditional rhythms with the popular music genres of Guinea. The result is an incredibly exciting dance music that is growing rapidly in popularity.

Idy Ciss will teach a West African dance lesson at 8:30 PM.
