Explore the music of Veracruz, México, the birthplace of an old yet vibrant tradition of jarocho music -- a mixture of Spanish, African and indigenous influences. The music will capture your heart and your dancing feet. Jarocho is the celebration of music, dance, and lyrical poetry. Joining educator and musician, Raul Fernandez, will be a group of young musicians, ages 6-21 from the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago -- the Jarochicanos. Discover amazing stringed and percussion instruments such as the jarana, leona, marimbol and cajón and find out just what sound a donkey jaw makes! Grownups and kids will be able to try out these special instruments unique to Veracruz. Come feel the deep and joyful rhythm of zapateado dance and the fandango. You can wear shoes with a harder sole or tap so you too can make the beat with your feet! Classes
