Balla Kouyaté is considered to be among the greatest balafon players from the Djeli or Griot tradition in Mali. Balla inherited this family tradition passed down from generation to generation since the 13th century. Balla performed with the top ensembles in Mali before making his way to the U.S. He has performed on nearly 50 albums and has collaborated and recorded with an astonishing array of musicians, including Yo-Yo Ma and Angelique Kidjo. He will be perfoming with the World Vision Trio that includes percussion and banjo.
Balla Kouyaté will give a workshop as part of the Thursday Workshop Series.
