The Old Town School of Folk Music in partnership with the South Asian Progressive Action Collective (SAPAC) presents the Voices of Resistance Eight (VOR8), an annual SAPAC event in its 8th rendition. VOR8 creates a safe space for local artists of South Asian descent to use their art as a dynamic means of social commentary that empowers and transforms. This event will present an array of musicians, performance artists, and visual artists dedicated to creating awareness for South Asian concerns. SAPAC is a volunteer-run collective that strives to raise a South Asian voice for justice and equality.

Scheduled to perform:

D'lo
Tamil Sri Lankan American political performance artist, writer, producer, and comedian currently causing the most trouble in Los Angeles. D'Lo is a teaching artist and has performed and held workshops extensively throughout the US and Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, Sri Lanka and India.

Gaurav Venkateswar, Himal Agarwal, Ajit Deshmukh
Musical performance featuring vocals and tabla. The artists are trained in Indian classical and Western traditions.

Mary Anne Mohanraj
Spoken word. Sri Lankan author of Bodies in Motion

Mohammed Ahmad, Ajit Deshmukh, and Zeshan Bagewadi
Musical group performing Ghazal music featuring tabla, guitar and vocals.

Zeshan Bagewadi
Classically trained vocalist with an operatic piece.

Anjal Chande
Dancer and Musician who is the founder and director of Soham Dance Space. She will perform a Bharatanatyam dance piece.

Samip Mallick and Tina Yokota
A murder mystery farce produced by Radiostan, a WLUW radio show and podcast set in Chicago's Devon neighborhood.

Kareem Khubchandani
Kareem is an actor, dancer and student of Performance Studies at Northwestern University focusing on Queer South Asian performance. This will be a short theater piece.

Prashant Subbarao and Ajit Deshmukh
Instrumental piece performed on tabla and mridangam

Archana Kumar
Archana is a dancer and teacher at Rast ballet. She will perform Kathak dance.

Nikhil Trivedi, Sheena Panoor, Amisha Patel, and Sharmili Majmudar
Performance art about the politics of naming.

Sabba Syal
Visual artist. Pieces explore themes of displacement, gender, and survival. Currently exhibited at the ARC Gallery in Chicago.

Manisha Paralikar
Visual Artist. SAPAC volunteer who feels naked when she has a stud in her nose instead of her hoop; and has a passion for art, activism, and the outdoors.

Zafar Malik
Visual Artist. Formerly the Art Director of Arts & The Islamic World, a quarterly journal; whose work is informed by his own experience of separation, longing, adjustment and compromise.

Sadia Uqaili
Visual Artist. Director of Artistic Programming at Snow City Arts; with a selection from her "Pomegranate Diaries" series.

Puja Chauhan
Visual Artist. Sculptor who has exhibited her artwork in Chicago, Mumbai, Indore and Baroda; with a piece titled "Bioscope," an interactive tool that makes intimate space not just outside the home but wherever it travels.

Rabya Khan
Visual Artist. SAPAC volunteer with a piece titled "Proof", an exploration of the meaning of (be)longing in the U.S.
