The Old Town School with assistance from the Mayor’s Office of Special Events celebrate the 30-year anniversary of one of Chicago’s venerated Blues labels, Earwig Music in anticipation of the Chicago Blues Festival June 12-14, 2009. Johnny Drummer & the Starliters and Liz Mandeville & the Blue Points both of the Earwig label will both grace the stage presenting top flight Blues.
Johnny Drummer is a celebrated multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and prolific songwriter who has been on the circuit along side Blues’ biggest stars since the 50’s. "Johnny Drummer’s suave vocals, front and center, are rich and full of character…" – Blues Revue
Liz Mandeville is an extraordinary vocalist that holds the distinction of being the only white vocalist to perform regularly at the internationally known Blue Chicago nightclubs, where she held court from 1994 to 1999. She’s a high voltage performer and a red hot mama. "She delivers…with unimpeachable enthusiasm and lusty gusto. Look at her indeed." – Living Blues
A Blues songwriting and composition workshop with Johnny and Liz is offered in the Thursday Workshop Series on Thursday, June 11th.
