The Old Town School and the Mayan Folkloric Organization present the Marimba Nacional de Concierto. This celebrated ensemble formed by Lester Homero God’nez Orantes in 1975 has been a driving force in the international promotion of Guatemala's national instrument since its founding. They were recently recognized as the Best Marimba in Guatemala and have embarked on a select tour of the United States with the generous support of the government of the Republic of Guatemala. The Mayan Folkloric Organization of Chicago will provide the opening ceremony in the form of a traditional Mayan ritual blessing called 'Tojo'.
