The Old Town School of Folk Music in partnership with the Center for Black Music Research at Columbia College presents this unique excursion into Surinamese music. For nearly three decades, with more than a dozen acclaimed recordings, the Surinam-Caribbean septet Fra Fra Sound has played a prominent part within the international jazz and world music scene. Founded in Amsterdam in 1980, Fra Fra Sound has expanded its initial fascination with music styles of Surinam(ksaeko, kawina, and winti) by incorporating other musical influences from the Caribbean, Africa and the United States.
The artists will offer a workshop in our Thursday Workshop Series.
