Brendan Hedges, a young musician and enthusiastic fan of the Beatles, was murdered in 1996. A friend of WXRT's Terri Hemmert (they met at the Annual Chicago Beatlefest), Brendan was never without his acoustic guitar, accompanying himself and his friends as they sang the songs of The Fab Four. In memory of Brendan and his love for the Beatles, The Old Town School of Folk Music and Terri Hemmert organized a Beatles Celebration in 1997 to establish The Brendan Hedges Scholarship Fund. The Fund has been used to provide free lessons at the Old Town School for those who cannot afford to pay themselves. The first Celebration in 1997 raised over $3,000 for the fund, with subsequent events gathering another $15,000.
