Violin | Kids Group Classes

Fiddle/Violin: The Old Town School of Folk Music's Fiddle Kids' Fiddle Program is for kids and teens! Our fiddle program is a non-traditional violin method planted in the folk tradition. Children will learn folk songs by ear in a group setting through dance, song, and rhythm. As students progress through the program they will learn basic music theory skills and reading. With our team taught classes your child will receive individual attention within the group experience.; Although private lessons are not required in the fiddle program, it is an experience that is highly encouraged. This will enhance, accelerate, and expand your child's musical experience. For more information on private lessons click here.; Another great way to enhance your child's musical experience is through social playing, i.e. jams, play dates, and concerts. Attending a weekly jam is a great way for students and parents to have fun while internalizing music we share on a deeper level.; FUN FACT: The violin and the fiddle are two names for the same instrument. The word fiddle often implies a folk style of playing.

Open Jam: Saturdays; 12:00 - 1:00 PM
909 W. Armitage; The Open Jam is free to all who attend even if you are not currently enrolled in a class. Anyone of any age can join in on any instrument regardless of level. These jams provide you with an opportunity to work with a variety of Old Town School of Folk Music teachers and cover many musical styles. And it's super fun!

Advanced Kids Ensemble: Kids Ensemble is great for kids who are looking to expand their playing experience. As a part of the ensemble, students pursue their instrument while learning to play in a group. Ensemble playing gives students a greater sense of their instruments' role and allows them to express individuality in a group.

Join Us: Broaden your child's musical experience, join us for one of these weekly events.; Wednesdays: 12:00 - 2:00 PM, Skip Landt's Noon Day Tunes Concert Hall Stage @ Lincoln. All ages welcome. Come sing and play and eat lunch with us!; Thursdays: 7 - 10:30 PM, Open Jam in the lobby at 4545 N. Lincoln. Come before class, come after class, come even if you don't have class, it's rockin'!; Saturdays: 12:00 - 1:00 PM at 909 W. Armitage. Open Jam, all ages and instruments welcome. It's fun, come share your tunes with us!
