The exciting, highly choreographed Japanese taiko tradition features drummers playing overlaying parts on specific drums. In this introductory workshop, participants will pick up taiko fundamentals including history of the taiko, gripping the sticks, stance, kata (movements and body positioning), basic timing and taiko rhythms. The workshop will begin with a physical warm-up followed by a series of drills, which will be put together to create a taiko song.
John Yost has a degree in percussion from Northeastern IL Univ. and has studied with master drummers from around the world.
