McKinley Morganfield (AKA: Muddy Waters) has been universally recognized among the greatest blues musicians to don an electric guitar, and, arguably, as the creator of the electrified modern Chicago Blues band. However, Muddy was, in fact, one of the finest acoustic “folk blues” artists to arise out of the blues rich Mississippi Delta, as documented by his iconic 1942 Plantation Recordings preserved by the Library of Congress. In this workshop, we will explore the Muddy Waters-style of acoustic blues guitar including his searing, clear slide/bottleneck sound, right hand fingerpicking technique, as well as open/standard tunings and “Delta blues” chord voicings.
