At the heart of the American banjo is American folk & blues, which has roots in the music of West Africa, North Africa, the Caribbean, Ireland, England, France, and Spain, to name a few. People came to the US with hopes and dreams. Some were starving and some were in chains, but they all brought their own songs and rhythms. This class will step into those locations -- playing tunes from original sources, American traditional music, contemporary songwriters, and student requests.
