Intro to Afro-Cuban percussion with Yoruba Andabo

The Yoruba Andabo Company is one of the premiere Afro-Cuban rumba groups in Cuba. In town for their Chicago debut at the Old Town School on Saturday, October 31st (see related Events to the right). Members of this historic group, founded on the piers of the port of Havana in 1961, will be conducting an introductory workshop on Afro-Cuban percussion within the Afro-Cuban tradition. Yoruba Andabo represents the African roots of Cuban culture culture including Conga, Yoruba, Abakua and the full range of rumba, with its traditional rhythms and dance, especially Yambu, Guaguancó and Columbia. This class will stress the basics of Afro-Cuban percussion but is open to all levels of experience. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to share with true masters of the Afro-Cuban tradition!
