The Old Town School songbook is a treasure that contains some of the sturdiest songs known to the English-speaking world - from centuries-old ballads to African-American Spirituals to old-timey numbers to blues to folk favorites to songs from Chicago’s own rich song writing tradition.
This class is for players of all acoustic instruments and will explore selections from the first songbook issued around 1958, through the current edition now in use. We’ll work on creating musical instrumental and vocal arrangements while inviting ensemble participation.
Rhythm, melody, harmony, a little theory and technique are all part of the mix. Instrumentalists who like to sing and are comfortable changing basic chords will enjoy this class.
