This Indonesian percussion ensemble has influenced contemporary musicians from Squarepusher to John Fahey to Sonic Youth. This class will introduce the basics of the instruments and performance. Students will learn lancaran song form and will have the opportunity to play all of the instruments in the gamelan. Students will play on an authentic set of Javanese instruments housed at the Old Town School.
