Kathak Dance Workshop

Adult Group Class / Dance Program

Tanushree Sarkar (see World Music Wednesday 11/14/12) of the Kathak Arts Center in New Jersey will give a dance workshop that will include; theoretical aspects of Kathak, description of various schools of Kathak and their characteristics, similarities and differences. She will introduce the various sounds from footwork; flats, toes and their combinations creating musical tones through foot work along with crescendos and decrescendos.

Ms. Sarkar will also teach how to bring about total alignment, attain the best of energy and to dance for life using spins of various kinds, dancing by balancing both feet constantly and evenly in each fragment, hand work, mudras (hands and eyes) describing the meanings of each, and visualizing music as an explorer. She will also explain how the vocalization (singing) is incorporated within the intricate patterns of dance.
