Adult Group Class / Drumming Program

This Indonesian percussion ensemble class will introduce the basics of central Javanese gamelan instruments and performance.  The students will learn lancaran and gangsaran song forms and will have the opportunity to play all of the instruments in the gamelan.  Listening is a particularly important part of this form. It is ensemble playing at its purest where the sum of the many distinct parts make the whole.  Students will play on an authentic set of Javanese instruments housed at the Old Town School in generous collaboration with our new friends, Friends of the Gamelan.  This class is suitable for anyone new to Javanese gamelan music.  It will bring new rhythms and forms to experienced musicians and is a great introduction to percussion and ensemble playing for those new to music. All are welcome.
